Breast augmentation surgery can provide the bustline that Mother Nature did not. With the wide variety of surgical techniques and breast implants available today, you're sure to find just the look you're after.

Recovery after Breast Augmentation

Usually, you go home the same day as your breast augmentation surgery. However, you will feel sore, uncomfortable, and will probably be still groggy from the anesthesia. You must have someone drive you home from the surgery and, if at all possible, stay with you overnight.

The initial recovery from breast augmentation takes about a week away from work or other activities. You will be swollen and will have to wear a special surgical bra or a pressure dressing to support your new breasts 24 hours a day for the first week or longer. After that, you may be told to wear it while you sleep for a period of time after that. Expect to be very tender and sore. Your doctor may prescribe pain relievers for you. You will be instructed to avoid lifting objects over 10 to 15 pounds for a few weeks.

Stitches will probably be removed 5 to 10 days after your surgery. Most swelling and any bruises should subside over the first week after surgery, however, some swelling will remain and will subside slowly over the course of the next several weeks and the last bit of swelling may take even longer to go away.

Your breasts may look high and unnatural for several weeks or months after your surgery. They will drop into a more natural looking position after a few weeks or months.
