Breast Lift
High, firm breasts are synonymous with youth, which is why many women turn to plastic surgery to give them the lift they need. A breast lift, or mastopexy, can transform sagging breasts to their former glory.
Breast Lift Risks
No surgery is risk free. A breast lift, or mastopexy, is no exception. All surgery carries the risk of excessive bleeding, anesthesia complications, and infection. The risk of complications with a breast lift also rises with the amount of lifting needed.
As with any surgery, the risks of having a complication go up if you have any underlying health conditions that are not controlled. Such conditions include diabetes, asthma, and circulatory problems. If you are a smoker, you are more likely to have anesthesia complications, slower healing or problems with healing, and more prominent scars.
After a breast lift, you may be left with a loss of sensation over the whole breast or the nipple area. This loss of sensation is usually temporary but may take months to go away and may be permanent. Your ability to breastfeed a baby in the future may be compromised.
You also run the risk of being unhappy with the results. You may dislike the amount of scarring you have. There is also the possibility that your breasts will not be symmetrical.
