Face LiftFace Lift

Putting your best face forward may be more challenging as you mature, but a face lift can help. Today's modern techniques are subtler and less invasive than those of the past, meaning you'll look less “done”, more rested and relaxed.

Recovery after Face Lift Surgery

Generally, you can go home about 2 hours after your face lift surgery. You will not be allowed to drive yourself home and must have someone drive you home. You may be instructed to apply cold compresses or ice packs to your face periodically that night and the next day to help reduce swelling. Follow your surgeon's instructions carefully.

You will also be instructed to sleep with your head elevated at night for a few weeks. Use two or three good-sized pillows or purchase a wedge-shaped pillow. You can also sleep in a recliner if you have one.

During the first few days after your surgery your face will be sore, swollen, and bruised looking. Some people develop two black eyes. Your surgeon may prescribe pain relievers for you and may also prescribe an antibiotic. Take your medications on time.

Sutures will be removed anywhere from 3 to 10 days after your surgery. Most people return to work about a week after their surgery. If there is still any bruising, it can be covered with cosmetics, but get your surgeon's approval before you place any product directly on the incision.

The swelling on your face will take a week or two to subside and the last little bit of swelling may take several weeks or even months to completely go away. You may not see the full effects of your face lift for 2 to 3 weeks after your surgery.
