RhinoplastyRhinoplasty

Nose jobs have been done in the United States and Europe since the mid-1800's, and the medical profession's quest to enhance the shape, appearance, and functionality of the nose hasn't slowed down since.

Recovery After Rhinoplasty Surgery

You can usually return to work about a week after having a nose job. However, be prepared for swelling, discomfort, and bruising after the surgery. Many people develop two black eyes after rhinoplasty, so don't be surprised if that happens to you. Your surgeon will probably prescribe a pain reliever for you.

After the surgery, the surgeon will pack your nostrils and will usually put a splint or cast on your nose, along with other bandaging. Some people feel claustrophobic from the nasal packing and the inability to breath through the nose. In most cases, the nasal packing will come out and the splint or cast will be removed a few days after the surgery. If you had an open rhinoplasty and have stitches, these will be removed around the same time.

You will be told to sleep with your head and shoulders elevated for several days. This will help reduce the swelling. You will also be told to avoid bending over for about a week. Avoid doing anything that could bump your nose. Try to wear clothing that does not have to be pulled on over your head while your nose is healing. Your surgeon will tell you when you can resume exercise and sports.

Don't judge your nose on how it looks in the first week after surgery. Your nose will be swollen and you will not get a good idea of the final results for several weeks. Swelling will not completely go away for several months.
